Former Holby City and Crispin School deputy head girl Jaye Jacobs is joining the cast of Waterloo Road.

27-year-old Emma Jacobs, who appears under her stage name Jaye Jacobs, played the 'tart-with-a-heart' nurse Donna Jackson in Holby City until March this year.

Her time in front of the cameras – forged from training with the Joy Tinney School of Dance in Street, before going to take part in the National Youth Music Theatre tour, has prepared her for future roles.

Although she has now moved to London, she still returns to Street to visit her family, and old stomping ground.

She will be joining the cast of BBC drama Waterloo Road, starring alongside ex-Eastenders actor Paul Nicholls.

The pair will play newlywed teachers Sian and Jez Diamond.

A BBC spokesman said Jacobs plays a Cambridge graduate who wants to inspire the pupils through her love of science.

He said ex-EastEnder Nicholls' character Jez is a former professional footballer who wants to bring a winning streak to the school's lacklustre PE department.

The show, which is set in a troubled comprehensive school in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, focuses on the lives of the school's teachers and students, and confronts social issues, including affairs, abortion, divorce, cancer and suicide.

The show has been commissioned for a further 20 episodes which will be shown later this year.

It is believed that Emma has spent the last six weeks filming for the drama, which is set in an inner-city school and attracts around five million viewers per episode.
